What is a Retinal Tear?
A retinal tear occurs when the vitreous gel pulls on the retina and tears it in one or more places. If this happens, it is possible for the liquid component to pass through the tear underneath the retina and begin to peel the retina off like wallpaper, leading to a retinal detachment.
Most tears are treated with laser which creates a ring of laser scars around the tear, thus preventing a retinal detachment. Laser is a procedure performed by Dr Hilford in the consulting rooms.
